2012 Goals: Progress Report

I wrote about my goals for 2012 here and promised to do monthly updates on them.  Honestly, I’m really happy with my progress so far.  With so much going on all the time, it’s hard to tackle everything at once but having it all down in writing gives me a place to come back to when I’m feeling a little lost – which happens way more than I’d like to admit. I’m not sure if it’s the goals or the accomplishment or a combination of the two, but I’m in a much better place mentally than I was even two or three weeks ago.  That alone makes this whole exercise worth doing.

Health

  • Lose 20 pounds.  As much as I am resisting quantifying that, I think it’s important to go ahead and do it. {As of this past Saturday, I am down 11.2 pounds since December 17 so I think it’s safe to say I’m making excellent progress on this goal.}
  • Have a regular exercise regimen. I always feel so much better when I do, but I’ve been out of the habit for a while now. {I’m not sure it’s regular – and certainly not what I had in mind when I wrote this goal – but I have been walking twice a week for about an hour.  It’s something, right?}
  • Start therapy. I have some old issues that need working out so they can stop interfering with my life. {Um, I started the process of finding someone, but that’s about as far as it’s gotten.}

Family

  • Spend more time together as a family of four.  We always let our weekends get crazy and booked up with other people and obligations. {For a variety of reasons, we’ve spent the last few Sundays at home. It’s been nice, but there’s still room for improvement.}
  • Develop a budget and stick to it. We’d like to buy a house in the next couple of years and there’s no way we’ll be able to if we keep spending everything we earn. {The budgeting is coming along, but we’re about to get a lot more serious about it.  It’s time.}
  • Plan monthly date nights with my husband. {We went to dinner at a new restaurant and to see the Michael Jackson Cirque du Soliel show last week with my sister and brother-in-law.}

Work

  • Decide for once and all what I want to be when I grow up and get a plan to get there. {Yeah, still working on this one.}
  • Grow my Etsy business. I’d like to sell double the items this next 6 months that I did my first six months open. {This is also in a holding pattern based on the above.}
  • Find a planning system I love. I am always so scattered, but I have a really hard time finding an option I don’t hate after 3 days. {I’ve been using a combination of the Groupwise calendar at work and a fabulous Erin Condren planner for everything else.  It’s working for now.}

Home

  • Get rid of the clutter in our lives. Like most people, we have way too much stuff and I am sick of it. {I bought a book about getting rid of the clutter.  Does that count?}
  • Decorate each room in the house, starting with the boys’ playroom. I am so tired of bare, beige walls. {No progress here other than buying the first piece in a set of furniture for the playroom.}
  • Try at least one new recipe a week month (trying not to set myself up for failure here). {I actually think I tried a new recipe or two every week in January.  I’m beginning to really like cooking and even getting a little adventurous.}

Blog Stuff

  • Write a minimum of three blog posts per week. I really do love writing so I need to make more time for it. {I think I hit this goal in January and even had more posts a couple of weeks.}
  • Edit my Google Reader subscriptions and keep up with reading blogs I really like. Several times this past year, I had 500+ unread items in my reader. Ridiculous. {I didn’t edit, but I have been keeping on top of reading what’s in there.}
  • Comment more on blogs I read. I’ve gotten really bad about that – not for lack of anything to say, but for lack of time to compose my thoughts. {I’ve been doing so much more of this and it’s been fun.}

  1. What a great idea and a great way to be held accountable. I belong to an off-line Master Mind Group and we talk about our goals and help keep each other accountable as well.

    I set some big goals at the beginning of this year and I’ve had some big obstacles come up – my blog got hacked and just got fixed yesterday and my husband is currently in the hospital. Hopefully, this means as I work through these big obstacles I’ll reach my goals.

  3. WOW! You have no idea – it is like we are sisters!! I don’t even know you but you seem to be inside my head! It is nice to see how others are doing on their goals as well! I have similar goals and I like the idea of doing updates! I am curios – I too am looking to work through some issues, what steps are you taking or what resources are you using to ind the right person? I honestly don’t even know where to begin lol. Thanks for being so open and honest! Keep ‘em coming! (I too found you on SITS)
