In my diaper bag . . .

Our diaper bag has evolved a lot since Joey was born. We used to carry one or two of everything you might possibly need at any given time. Now that Joey is out of diapers and Luke is not really a baby anymore, we tend to travel a lot lighter.

When we had Joey, we bought an inexpensive diaper bag. We had no idea what we needed other than something roomy that Sal would carry {read: not girly}. When Luke came, we decided to splurge on a nicer bag and I have not regretted it for a minute. Our JuJuBe Be All is awesome. There are inside and outside pockets for bottles, mesh pouches for two kinds of diapers plus wipes and a plethora of other pockets. Even with all of those full, there’s still a fair amount of room for a changes of clothes and whatever else we might throw in there.

Diapers were a matter of complete trial and error for us. Joey was a super heavy wetter from the very beginning. Thankfully, someone had sent us a package of Luvs because they turned out to be our saving grace. Not only are they one of the cheapest diaper options, but we found them to be the most absorbent.

We aren’t super brand loyal when it comes to wipes, but more often than not we end up with Target’s Up & Up Unscented. They are inexpensive, they’re gentle and they’re soft.

One thing we try never to leave the house without are Boogie Wipes. If you aren’t using them, you should be. If you are, then you know why I love them so much. Not only are they awesome for cleaning up snotty noses, but they also work great on crusty food-covered faces {not that my kids ever have those}.

Whoever invented these Mam night pacifiers is my hero. Not only are they awesome for finding pacifiers in the dead of night, but they also make them easy to spot in the diaper bag. Luke doesn’t use a pacifier all the time, but we still carry one and a spare with us most of the time. Screaming baby is not my favorite so I avoid the possibility at all costs.

Even though Joey is fully potty trained, we carry an extra pair of underwear with us for emergencies. Little boys {like grown men} sometimes have a hard time getting their pee in the toilet.

You know how the father in My Big Fat Greek Wedding uses Windex for everything? Well, that’s how I feel about Aquaphor. Diaper rash, chafing, blister, you name it. I love this stuff.

And finally, I always keep a little bottle of antibacterial gel with me. I prefer the Bath & Body Works version, but I’ve been known to carry others in a pinch.

In addition to those staples, I generally carry my wallet, car keys, sunglasses and some lip balm in my bag. Now that we need less baby stuff, I sometimes also toss in my DSLR protected by it’s super fabulous SheyB camera clutch {which I don’t think you can buy anymore – they were super limited, but I’ve heard that a DIY tutorial is in the works}.

What are your diaper bag essentials?

  1. We have a lot of the same diaper bag items, and the same diaper bag company!

  2. Cute bag!

    • I feel like I’m a light packer but I carry almsot all of the items on your list, lol. I think all the compartments in my diaper bag makes it feel less cumbersome. Organization is key :) Like sweetandtart, I also carry baby-safe antibacterial wipes for wiping icky grocery carts handles and restaurant tables.
