New Year, No Excuses {Week 1}

NEW YEAR NO EXCUSES CHALLENGE

Yesterday was the very first weigh in of the New Year, No Excuses weight loss challenge and these ladies seriously rocked it. In just one week, there was an overall loss of 141.7 pounds which equates to 1.54% of weight lost. Impressed? I sure am.

We had two people {out of 49} lose over 10 pounds each! Eight more lost 5 or more pounds which is pretty incredible if you ask me. I’m so excited at the enthusiasm this group is showing and even more thrilled with the support that’s being offered {in most cases, to complete strangers} in our private Facebook group. I’m convinced this is why this model is working for so many of us.

On a personal level, I’m a little frustrated. I know the scale shows a 3 pound loss and I’m thankful for that, but I just seem to be holding on to a random couple of pounds that shouldn’t be there. Prior to this challenge, I was weighing 199.5 pretty consistently so being stuck up in the 200s again is kind of a buzz kill.

Never fear, I’m not planning to give up. I’m just spending a lot of time wracking my brain about what might not be working.

The first thing that has to go is dairy. Although it isn’t technically Paleo, I’d added some grass fed, full fat dairy  back in because there are some health benefits related to those foods. I didn’t think it was bothering me to have it – maybe I was wrong.

I also have been really, really bad about getting my probiotic foods in and I’m noticing that my digestion is suffering a bit so I need to make a bit more effort there. In a perfect day, I’d have 1/4 cup fermented veggies and 8 oz of kombucha. I haven’t had either for days.

I bought a Fitbit last week {I’ll talk more about that  another day} and it’s been great motivation for me to move more. On the down side, I’m just not sure my body is all that stoked about no sugar + increased activity. I think I’ll go ahead and continue the walk and stair climbing I started this week, but not push for more until I’m done with the sugar detox.

Finally, stress has been high at home since before Christmas. I’ve had tons of Etsy orders {totally not complaining} + the holiday craziness + some personal things. I think it should all be settling down soon and I bet I’ll see that reflected on the scale. I’ve always known that my body reacts poorly to stress, but it’s even more apparent since I started eating Paleo that stress is not my friend.

So what about you? Good week or bad? Link up below and tell us what you’ve been up to this week in your healthy living journey.
